Splash
Dance was formed by Charlotte Henson to offer children classes in
RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern and Tap. Charlotte has been teaching for
19 years starting out at a school in Bath which gave her the
training and a lot of experience in managing a large established
school. She then left to attend a school more local and helped to
build the school up to 300 pupils before setting up her own
school.
The two
boards that SDA follow are the RAD – Royal Academy of Dance and
the ISTD – Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Taking exams
are not compulsory but every child will be given the option at
some point. Children love to take exams as it shows them the
progress that they make throughout the years. SDA has a 100% pass
rate with the majority of children gaining Distinctions and
Merits. We also offer pre-school Ballet and Modern classes
designed with the younger child in mind. The Ballet works along
side the pre-school curriculum and Melody Bear Movement with a set
aim after each year.
Students will also have the opportunity to take part in an annual
event which gives the students the chance to show what they have
achieved throughout the year, this also allows parents to watch
the students perform and have fun away from syllabus work.
Splash Dance also offers
private lessons to local schools who wish to add this to their
current extra activities offering. Charlotte has many years of
experience teaching at local private schools for pupils who wish
to carry on with their dancing. Schools either run these lessons
during lunch time or in the evening for extra activities for
boarding pupils. This gives the pupils the opportunity to continue
their training in dancing and to progress through exams. We also
invite pupils to join Splash in participating in our annual dance
show to have fun in demonstrating the progress they have made.
Schools Charlotte's had the pleasure in teaching at have included
Kingswood School in Bath, Wells Cathedral School, Hatherop Castle
School and currently Westonbirt School.
Whether
your child just likes to perform or to progress through the
grades,
Splash
Dance can cater for all.

Miss Charlotte Henson,
Principal
Charlotte
started dancing at the age of 3 and has danced almost
every day of the week from then on. Joining performing
groups, summer schools and festivals through her years of
training. Charlotte successfully auditioned for the Youth
Dance Talent Course at the age of 11 and has been taught
by likes of Royston Maldoom, Anne Went, Banxy, Yvonne
Evans (Voyd), Adele Thompson as well as having master
classes by the top London ballet academies and danced
along side people that became famous like Billie Piper.
Charlotte appeared in an advertising campaign which
appeared in national newspapers and billboards shown as a
deaf ballerina, filmed as a duet to Lionel Ritchie's
Ballerina Girl which was broadcast on tv, performed a
dance routine on the CBBC programme called The Lowdown and
was a backing dancer for a dance video which appeared on
MTV.
Charlotte's love in dance was always teaching since
starting to teach at the age of 13 in Bath, taking warm-up
exercises and slowly progressing onto taking an entire
dance class.
Charlotte
trained at the RAD teacher training centre in Bristol and
then at the RAD Headquarters in London to obtain her
teaching qualifications.
This doesn't end her training as the RAD constantly alters
the syllabus over the years and every year attends the
teacher courses to learn the new syllabus. |
Miss Natasha Webb
Natasha started dancing at the age of 3 at the Rochelle
School of Dance and found her love for Musical
Theatre.
Natasha joined many theatre groups to feed her love of
performing and studied Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz,
Highland, Ballroom, Singing and Drama at The Rock Academy
Performing Arts.
Natasha recently moved back to Cirencester and straight
away joined The Cirencester Operatic Society and we are
pleased to have Natasha teaching Musical Theatre here at
Splash with many more classes to follow. |

Since 2005 we committed
ourselves to this and as the school grew so did our investment.
These
investments started little with the purchase of ballet barres
right up to a more recent £600 investment on a professional
portable dance floor made by Harlequinn.
Harlequinn supply dance floors for all the major dancing events
around the world and also supply to The English National Ballet
and Riverdance.
In 2009 our biggest
investment to date was made. We used to hire lighting for
performances but felt that the money spent on lighting could be
used to buy our own lighting.
So an investment of over
£5000 was made and we purchased equipment not only for shows but
to enable us to stand out where ever we went.
We
purchased 18x LED Par cans, 4x Mirror Scanners, 2x Professional
250watt moving heads, 6x 300w Par Cans, 2x dimmer packs, 3x
heavy duty lighting trusses, computer controlled DMX lighting
software and miles of power and lighting (DMX) control cables.
We also purchased 8x
wireless microphones with flesh tone headsets, a large
professional mixing desk and over 2000 watts of sound.
This was also accompanied
by a 135" projector screen and a short throw projector to
project scenes on to the stage easily.
In 2010 we added
further equipment such as UV lights, DMX Distribution units, 2x
16U Rack cases with wheels, rack mounted computers, overhead
stage microphones and various other accessories.
During the sound & lighting
investment in 2009 we also invested over £3000 on costumes.
This was made up of over 30
Ballet TuTu's, leotards and hundreds of accessories like head
dresses, wands, skirts and this list goes on. There was also a
fish and frog costume in there somewhere.
This has now established our wardrobe department and will only
grow over time.
The most important
investment that we receive is time. Thousands of hours are
invested over each year by all the friends and family of Splash.
This makes all the shows, days of dance, school fetes and
displays possible.
This is the most important
gift you can give and its free.
